A New Chapter of Compassion: Welcome to the Valor Foundation

A message from Nancy Moore

For more than three years, I have been a Hospice Consultant with Valor Hospice, where I meet with families, build community relationships, and inform people about what hospice care really means.

My involvement with Valor and other nonprofit organizations has led to a strong interest in fundraising and contributing to the community. I find it meaningful to meet our community's needs.

The passion and daily needs our team noticed led Garrett, Don, and Jeanice King to found the Valor Foundation.

Caring Beyond the Clinical Need

Working in hospice has shown me that caring for someone is about much more than just their medical needs.

Over the years, I’ve watched our team step in to help patients and their families whenever needed. Staff have bought clothes, delivered groceries, and collected blankets and coats for homebound patients with limited resources. Even though these needs aren’t medical, they make a big difference in a patient’s comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

The Valor Foundation enables us to demonstrate our compassion by ensuring that patients, families, and employees receive support when unforeseen needs arise.

Recently, one of our patients experienced an unexpected air conditioning outage. Thankfully, a family member was able to provide a portable unit, allowing the patient to remain comfortably at home rather than needing emergency respite care. It was a simple solution, but it made a meaningful difference.

These are exactly the kinds of needs the Valor Foundation is being created to address.

Creating Moments That Matter

One of the programs I am most excited about is our Last Wishes program.

As a Hospice Consultant, I often meet patients and families when they begin hospice care. I hear about their lives, families, careers, memories, and what matters most to them.

Last year, I worked with a patient who thought he might be celebrating his last Thanksgiving. His greatest wish was to have his entire family together. He planned the lunch, and I wanted to help make it even more special.

I printed a photo of him and his wife and gave copies to his children and family members. It was a small gesture, but his family still reaches out to tell me how much that photo meant to them.

That experience remains with me, and it will reflect the Foundation’s mission. While hospice may be the final stage of life, there are still birthdays to celebrate, families to unite, memories to create, and moments to make meaningful.

Supporting the Whole Family

I often remind families that hospice supports not only the patient, but the entire family.

Becoming a caregiver can bring emotional, physical, and financial challenges. Families often balance jobs, children, finances, and daily responsibilities while caring for their loved one.

If the Valor Foundation can ease even a small part of that burden, we want to help.

We aim to support those who care for our patients every day. I have witnessed our Valor team unite when colleagues face unexpected financial or personal hardships.

Join Us for the Launch of the Valor Foundation

I’m excited to announce the official launch of the Valor Foundation on Thursday, September 3rd, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fort Worth Club.

Over the past few months, we’ve worked together to shape the Foundation’s vision and talk about the difference it can make. I look forward to sharing this with our community.

The evening will bring together community partners, healthcare professionals, friends, and supporters. There will be cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, networking, and a silent auction.

This event kicks off our fundraising to help hospice patients, their families, and healthcare workers when they need it most.

Our referral partners trust Valor for excellent medical and clinical care. With the Foundation, we want to show our commitment goes even further. We hope to help with needs beyond clinical care and offer extra support whenever we can.

Even if you haven’t been involved with hospice, I encourage you to join us. With the right care and support, this chapter of life can be filled with comfort, peace, dignity, and meaningful moments.

Looking Toward the Future

This launch is just the beginning for us.

I hope that after our first event, we can begin fulfilling needs and wishes and eventually host Foundation events at each of our locations: Fort Worth, Dallas, and Houston.

Looking ahead five years, my main goal for the Valor Foundation is simple: I want us to be able to fulfill every request we get. Whether we are giving comfort items, meeting basic needs, or granting a final wish, I want the Foundation to have the resources to make a difference.

For me, comfort and dignity come from trust. I want patients and their families to trust us with their hospice care and know they have a safe place to turn for support.

The Valor Foundation lets us put our compassion into action. We can support patients, help families, stand by our employees, and give back to the communities we are proud to serve.

This is a new chapter for Valor, and I am excited to see what we can accomplish together.
